Brands spend significant dollars on event swag, giveaways and GWPs. But how much of it actually delivers value beyond the event?
Too often, the starting point is, "What can we put our logo on?" Instead, brands should ask, "What would our audience actually want, and why would they share it?"
The best giveaways aren't just free products. They're desirable, useful and designed to become part of the experience.
From Giveaway to Content Asset
This is especially relevant when influencers and content creators are involved.
Glossy found that influencer posts tied to brand events averaged a 5.6% engagement rate versus 4.0% for sponsored posts overall, highlighting the value of photogenic environments and built-in content opportunities.
The most effective gifting checks three boxes:
- Desirable: Something people genuinely want or use.
- Exclusive: Personalized, limited-edition or difficult to get elsewhere.
- Content-Worthy: Something worth photographing, filming or sharing.
Best in Class: Fenty Beauty
At its Fenty Beauty Experience in Chelsea, NYC, Fenty took creator gifting beyond the traditional swag bag.
The activation featured multiple immersive product and workshop spaces, customized branded makeup packaging and dedicated TikTok studio vignettes.
Rather than simply giving creators products, Fenty gave them an experience to participate in, content to capture and something personalized to take home.
The result was an experience intentionally designed around how creators engage with brands and share with their audiences.
The Opportunity: Extend the Moment
The opportunity is to think beyond the giveaway itself and consider how it can become part of the overall experience.
For example, a customization station gives guests the chance to create something unique while capturing content along the way. From the process to the finished product and how they use or wear it later, there are multiple opportunities for the brand to show up beyond the event.
The goal is simple: Give people something they actually want, create a memorable experience around it and give them a reason to share it.
